Having had multiple big 4k monitors over the last several years (and having an ergonomic deskless wall mounted setup that allows me to sit the optimal distance away no matter the screen size) I personally found that even on my 40" 100% scaling wasn't completely comfortable, but it was on my 43". And was very comfortable on my 49" and current 55" OLED.
When I upgrade from this I would like to go to 65" but the pixel density is a bit low at 4k. Sizewise it seems about right for the distance away I would need to sit, which I tested by projecting my desktop over the OLED in mixed reality via my Quest 3's passthrough cameras and resizing it to the optimal size in my FOV where I wouldn't have to turn my head to see all the screen.
Hell, what would be really good would be something like those soon to be released (Apple Vision Pro level) Immersed Vision Pro 4k per eye micro-OLED MR glasses, so I can have 5 high-res virtual monitors projected into my environment at any size I want!
Which I tested using their software on the Quest 3 and is pretty usable even on that.
